Ahmed greatest us at his office at the Al Maha petrol station and we followed him to his rented camp. We were treated with a welcome drink and refreshments and we chatted. He has excellent English. We arranged camel rides and dune bashing for the next morning. Evening dinner was good and so was breakfast. Basic but sufficient. There were two tents for relaxing and a nice camp fire to sit around after dinner where chatted with other guests.
You can stay in Bedouin tent. Tent has a bed and bug net around it, but still a bit scary. In my case, a small rat invaded, got into a bag, and ate our cookies. I mean, it was unique experience and I really enjoyed those kind of things. If you want to feel raw on Wahiba desert, I believe that here's the stay. And food was really delicious. I've never informed that I have to pay extra 25OMR for taking us to hotel and way back with 4WD car. It is big money and I want to let you guys know.
It was amazing to spend a night in the dessert. We were doubting if we would do it but very glad we did. Also if we wouldn't take a more expansive option, but this was perfect. Beds were a little hard, but for one night this was no problem. There is a great dune beside the camp you can climb on and make beautiful pictures. We took our three and one year old and they loved all the sand. We did the sand bashing and camel ride and this was also defenitely worth the money! Food was delicious. The owner and staff were very friendly. At night it gets really cold so take warm clothes and if you have, a flash light would be handy to find the toilet at night.
Pros - nice location next to a great sand dune - good food - friendly staff - offer additional things like camels, 4wd Cons - not really cons but more things to consider - very basic facilities for sleeping & washing - would have been nicer to be further away from town into the desert more - a real plus would have been someone to explain the stars!
“Great Location and Ahmed the owner is very friendly”
We had a fantastic stay, food was good and the ambience was great as well. We did dune bashing and camel riding in the morning which was awesome. Highly recommended.
