Named after the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru stadium is a spectacular multipurpose stadium in terms of design, sporting facilities available, capacity of the stadium. The stadium was constructed by the government of India in the year 1981 for the major purpose of 1982 Asian games. After successfully hosting the event, it also hosted the 1989 Asian games in athletics.

Jawaharlal Nehru stadium is magnificent piece of structure with a huge capacity of spectators ranging from 60000 and going as up as 100000. In terms of the huge capacity the stadium is the 3rd largest in the country and 51st in the world. Recent up gradation and renovation of the stadium has made it one of the best stadiums in the country and also comparable to the best in the world. More comfortable seating and more live screens have been put up and also a new roof is also constructed in the stadium. New warm up area, gym facilities, better synthetic tracks for running and also lawn ball field is also added to the stadium.

The new design of the stadium truly depicts the coming of age of Indian sporting facilities and shows its dominance in that era.

In the recently concluded Commonwealth Games, JLN stadium was the epicenter if the major happenings of the games. Both the grand opening and closing ceremonies were conducted in the stadium. Also the stadium has a football pitch on which various matches are held from time to time.
